Adriene Coulter

Adriene Coulter is a registered architect in California, earning her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1984. Also a native Santa Barbaran, she started architecture as an drafting intern at the age of 15. While in college, she traveled to Europe, studying design in France, Spain and Italy. After graduation, she was awarded a Rotary International Scholarship to study architecture for a year at the Tokyo University of Arts and Music. Returning to Santa Barbara, she began her career at Brian Cearnal Associates. There, she designed widely diverse character homes and commercial projects in Santa Barbara’s distinctive style and was licensed in 1989. It was also there that she met Pete and their friendship began.

She then joined David Bury & Company Architects Ltd. in Ojai, where she would remain for the following 15 years as a Senior Associate Architect.  The firm specialized in resorts and spas, as well as single-family private residential work.  Adriene was lead architect for projects such as Spa Terra at the Meritage Resort in Napa, creating the only cave spa in the United States, as well as designing projects for the Roman Spa in Calistoga, the Ojai Valley Inn and The Oaks of Ojai.

After David passed away in 2011,  Adriene was pleased to rejoin Pete at East Beach Ventures. Her role in all projects is to bring the design level up significantly with her vast knowledge of design and architectural styles.  She is also puts together all the firm’s presentation work.

Adriene’s community service includes being involved with LEED and the American Institute of Architects, the Santa Barbara Community Environmental Council and Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

She is a passionate neophyte gardener, and tries to incorporate edible and sustainable landscaping into her professional projects, as well as her own backyard.
